Remains of OFW slain in Canada on way home

Sun.Star: BAGUIO CITY - Jocelyn Dulnuan, the 27-year-old housemaid who was found dead in the basement of her employer’s mansion in Canada, will be home, for good, late this week in Hingyon, Ifugao.

Hingyon Mayor Ramon Tinawi, contacted through phone last Friday, said he received word from agencies working out the details of the repatriation that the body would arrive between Thursday and Saturday.

Jocelyn’s sister Maricris also said provincial officials relayed to her the same report, somehow easing the grieving family’s anguish over the wait for the body of its ninth of 10 siblings.

Waiting in Barangay Namulditan are Jocelyn’s husband Sandy and four-year old daughter, her father Tumitit Angel and eight siblings.

Maricris added that her mother Godeliva and sister Glory, both working in Hong kong, are also awaiting final word on the transport of her sister’s remains so they can come home for the burial.

News accounts in Canada said Jocelyn’s body was found by her employer last October 1 at the basement of the mansion she was working in Mississauga City within the Toronto area.

Canadian police had reportedly confirmed that she “died from foul play”.

The tragedy spurred fellow Filipinos in Canada and from other parts of the world to launch a fund drive to defray the cost of having her body brought home.

A representative of the Philippine consulate in Canada informed the Filipino community there that it will help in the repatriation.

The Filipino, Bibak and other Cordillera organizations in Canada have so far raised $4664, which they will send to Jocelyn’s family, following the assurance of support from the consulate on the return of Jocelyn’s body home.

A ‘Jocelyn Dulnuan Funds’ account has been opened through which check donations may be addressed, care of Fay Handaan, P.O. Box 62506, 85 Ellesmere Rd., Scarborough, ON M1R 5G8, according to the blog update forwarded from the ifugaoyahoogroup.

Maricris said authorities from the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration and the Department of Foreign Affairs have assured the family of their support to the repatriation of her sister’s remains.

Jocelyn, a criminology graduate from the University of Baguio, worked last year in Hong Kong from where she entered Canada where she was initially hired as nanny. - Sun.Star

Oct 12th: She was dedicated to her studies, earning a bachelor’s degree from the University of Baguio, ironically in criminology, and was a certified criminologist in the Philippines.
